A little about me and why I do this work.
Della K Gould
MBACP Counsellor
Meet Della
Hi, I’m Della K Gould. I’m a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I’ve trained in Therapeutic Counselling, including specialist work with young people and adults, and I continue to learn about areas like trauma, grief, anxiety, abuse, and neurodiversity.
I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of settings, including Arthur Rank Hospice, Parkside School, and Cambridge University. I also support carers looking after loved ones with life-limiting conditions, alongside running my private practice here in Cambridge.
Professional Standards and Learning
I’m committed to keeping my practice safe, professional, and up to date. This means regular supervision, safeguarding training, and ongoing learning.
I aim to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported; a place where you can explore, reflect, and make positive changes at your own pace.
Personal Insight and Motivation
My journey into counselling began with voluntary work at Cruse Bereavement Care, where I first experienced the power of truly listening. That inspired me to train professionally and dedicate my career to helping others feel supported.
Having faced my own challenges, I know how it feels to be vulnerable, overwhelmed, or unsure where to turn. Those experiences have shaped the way I work and allow me to connect with clients in a genuine and human way.

My Approach
I work in an integrative way, combining different therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs.
Psychodynamic therapy helps us understand how your past experiences may be influencing your thoughts and emotions today.
Gestalt therapy brings attention to what’s happening in the present moment and how you relate to yourself and others.
Person-Centred therapy provides a warm, safe, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your feelings at your own pace.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) offers practical tools and strategies to help you manage difficult thoughts and behaviours in everyday life.

FAQs
-
When you first get in touch, usually by email, I’ll reply and offer a short phone call. This gives you space to ask questions, share a little about what’s been bringing you to counselling, and get a feel for how I work. It’s informal, and there’s no pressure. The call also helps me understand how I might best support you.
-
If you decide you’d like to continue with counselling, we’ll complete a simple intake form together. This includes a few short questions about how often you experience certain feelings or situations. I’ll then email you the counselling contract to read in your own time. If you’re happy, we can arrange your first session.
-
Yes, you can take a break at any time. These sessions are for you, and it’s completely okay to pause if life feels busy or overwhelming. You’re always welcome to return when ready. We can pick things up again at a pace that feels right.
-
Endings are planned and handled with care, unless you choose otherwise. We’ll reflect on what first brought you to counselling and what you’ve gained from our work. This helps create a sense of closure and confidence moving forward. You’re welcome to return if you need further support.

I have regular supervision with a qualified supervisor, which is an important part of practice. I may discuss general themes from my work to ensure I’m working safely and ethically. Your confidentiality is always protected; your name and any identifying details are never shared.
